Maida is a wheat flour from India. Finely milled without any bran, refined, and bleached, it closely resembles Cake flour. The term maida is common in southern India, the equivalent term in northern India is safed atta, literally white flour, though maida is not uncommon in the north either. Maida is used extensively for making fast food, baked goods such as pastries, bread, several varieties of sweets, and traditional flatbreads. Owing to this wide variety of uses, it is sometimes labeled and marketed as all-purpose flour, though it is different from all-purpose flour as commonly understood in the US.Uses
Though foods made from Maida like Pizza, Burger, Donuts, Bread, Samosas, Noodles, Momos, Panipuri, Pastas etc are very tempting and tasty however, at the same time, consequences can not be ignored.Benefits
Maida or Refined flour is a very close member of our ingredients used in kitchen. Mostly of us use Refined flour to most of the foods as it gives a better texture to the product. But my question is, Is It worth eating any food which will give your food a better texture but at the same time it is harmful for your body? For me texture is secondary and what comes first is my health. Refined flour will also lead to peptic ulcer and gall bladder disease. Refining of wheat removes high amount of good quality protein in the process. Protein buffers the hydrocholric acid secreted by the stomach, and tends to protects the stomach from being ulcerated by the acid produced. Diet low in fiber and high in sugar will impair and interfere in the regulation of bile and cholesterol. Gallstones formed from cholesterol are common in people on refined diet.
